Environmental
To protect the public health, the Jessamine County Health Department performs inspections on all food service establishments. Environmentalist inspects restaurants, grocery stores, schools, bed and breakfast facilities, fairs and festivals.
Kentucky has now adopted the 2005 FDA Food Code. Starting May 1, 2010 restaurant inspections will be performed according to the new code. Please visit the Kentucky Food Safety Branch http://chfs.ky.gov/dph/info/phps/food.htm for more information or to view the new food code.
All food handlers in Jessamine County are required to obtain their food handlers or managers card.
Food permits are required prior to opening any food service operation. Please contact our office at 859-885-2310 for information.

Instructions for Online Food Handlers Course
- Go to https://ky.train.org
- Follow instructions to create a new account
- Click on Create Account
- After your account has been created
- Enter your Login name and Password
- Click on the Course Search or enter Course ID number on right hand side of screen
- Enter Course ID 1006105
- Scroll down to Jessamine County Food Handler Module and click
- Go to Course Details click Registration then click Launch
- After you have successfully completed your test. Click on Quit
- Click on Home to return to the home page
- Click on Certificates located under My Learning Record. The course evaluation must be completed prior to printing the certificate.
The certificate is not your food handler’s card. To receive your food handlers card, bring the print out of your food handler certificate and $5.00 to the Environmental office of the Jessamine County Health Department. If you have any questions call Barbara Smith at 859-885-2310.
Food Handler
Food Handler classes are scheduled monthly at the Jessamine County Health Department The fee for this course is $5.00. To register please contact Barbara Smith at 859-885-2310. Food handler courses may also be taken online.
Food Manager
Food Manager classes are scheduled quarterly at the Jessamine County Health Department. The fee for this course is $30.00. To register please contact Barbara Smith at 859-885-2310.
